Artist Statement – Peter Slegers
Peter Slegers (1962 - Someren-Eind) is a multidisciplinary artist who finds his roots in the Brabant landscape on the edge of the Peel. With a background as a teacher of visual arts, he has developed into a versatile and independent artist, based in Maastricht. From his studio, a beautiful spot right on the Maas, he works on an oeuvre that is characterized by powerful combinations of traditional and contemporary media.
His artistic practice finds a special dimension in the use of multimedia, with which he gives his paintings a unique depth and liveliness. Inspired by the Renaissance ideals of Leonardo da Vinci as an artist and homo universalis, he created the monumental installation Aan Tafel, a life-size contemporary interpretation of The Last Supper. This project travels around as an art experience, inviting the public to reflect and connect.
Slegers’ work balances between spontaneous expression and carefully thought-out concepts. This layered approach manifests itself in various forms, including painting, video art and installation art. Through these disciplines he explores themes such as time, interaction and the human experience, always looking for new ways to push the boundaries of art.
